Division 4 Recreation Program (also know as REC)

Overview
The Anderson Youth Soccer League Rec Program is a community based program. With over 40 years of volunteerism, it is
one of the most successful community programs in the north valley area. The Rec Program is designed for all players
regardless of ability. It encompassed over 3000 players in the last 3 years, with approximately 257 teams playing over
2500 games. All players will play at least 50% of every game. The goals of the REC program are for players to have fun
and enjoy the game while learning soccer skills, teamwork, and sportsmanship. Parent volunteers support the program by
taking roles as the coach, assistant coach, snack bar/concessions, field help and board members to name a few.

The Program offers children the opportunity to play soccer in a supportive and rewarding environment. We place an emphasis
on skill development and creativity, by providing players with United States Soccer Federation and California Youth Soccer
Association guidelines conducted by our league certified volunteer coaches* and league trainer. Through age appropriate
exercises and small-sided games, players learn basic fundamentals and technical execution at an early age, while still having
fun.

TEAM FORMATION
AYSL Rec teams are grouped in two-year age groupings for U-6 through U-19. Players who register with AYSL but who do not
attend tryouts will be placed on Division 4 teams. U6 – U10 teams are based on availability of coaches as well as ratio of
younger to older players, nearest elementary school and parity of teams is also considered.. Players in the U12 and above
age groups are drafted by coaches onto their respective teams. Teams are based on availability of coaches. AYSL does accept
special requests for player placement.

ROSTERS
Recreational players will be placed on teams as space permits by the end of July. Team rosters will be posted on AYSL's
website in August. If you have not heard from a coach by mid-August, please notify AYSL Registrars for follow-up.

Practice will begin in late July or early August and the games begin the weekend prior to Labor Day. Practices are held during
the week and the games played primarily on the weekends. Game schedules will be posted by the mid August with most age
groups playing for approximately ten weeks.

COACHING AND TRAINING
Coaches are selected by the AYSL Coaching Coordinators from parent volunteers. Many of our volunteer coaches hold coaching
licenses and many have a love for the game to teach players the basics. Volunteering to coach offers a rewarding opportunity
to work with children and build their individual and team playing skills. All coaches and assistant coaches are required to register
for the league. Click here to Register.

AYSL provides support to volunteer coaches by sponsoring free training and free coaching clinics beginning in August. Additional
training is available through CYSA coaching courses. The exclusive AYSL Rec Instructor Program (AYSL's own league trainer) is
unique in that it provides training for coaches from U6-U19 teams.

VOLUNTEER ROLES
Parent volunteers support the program by taking roles as the coach, assistant coach, banner set-up, snack coordinator, field
help and board members to name a few. This level of activity can only happen with the involvement and dedication of large
numbers of volunteers. Coaches, Asst Coaches and referees are always in short supply, and the league encourages those who
can to give back to the kids and the community. The number of teams and players placed is determined by the number of
volunteer coaches in any given age group. Volunteer coaches are permitted to request two assistant coaches when registering.
Every effort will be made to place the assistant on your team, however it is subject to coach availability.

UNIFORMS
Anderson Youth Soccer League recreational team uniforms are supplied by the league, and are paid for with each players
registration fees. Uniform supplied by the league consist of jersey, shorts and socks. Soccer cleats, shinguards and practice
ball are not supplied, and can purchased at any local sports equipment supplier.

TOURNAMENTS
For each Age group, the AYSL D4 Coaching Coordinators will be meet some time after the team formation process to firm up
a list of suggested tournaments that the teams will go to based on the teams’ abilities. We will try to get many teams to go to
the same tournament if possible to create a strong presence and players can support other AYSL teams.
