Modified Rules for U6, U8 and U10

Modified Rules - Why These Modifications are Necessary

* Players have more actual playing time.
* Players are required to make more decisions.
* Players have increased contact with the ball.
* Players have more practical space to play in.
* Players experience recurring situations frequently.
* The work rate and involvement of a player stays consistent.
* Total running distance is basically the same for large or small fields.
* Players have energetic workouts due to playing both offense and defense.
* While learning both offense and defense, a player will become more complete and will have a better
   understanding of the roles of teammates.

Size of the Ball

* Lighter.
* Less intimidating.
* Less stress on joints (injuries).
* Easier to imitate adult performance.

Size of the Field

* Conducive to their physical size.
* More efficient use of space.
* Two games can be played simultaneously across a regulation field.
* Bringing goals closer to the action means more goals and that's fun!

U6 Modified Rules

1.  One/Two parent referees will center each game.
2.  5 play at a time, maximum; 3 play minimum
3.  Size 3 ball to be used.
4.  Four 6 minute quarters with two minute breaks at each quarter end and a five minute break at
     half time. Substitutions at quarters and halves, or after an injury.
5.  NO Goalkeeper. NO score keeping. Corner kicks and goal kicks will be used.
6.  Change of kick-off and goals (teams) at half-time.
7.  Throw-ins get two chances (same player), with referee explanation.
8.  All kicks are indirect when a foul occurs. No penalty kicks.
9.  Shin guards MUST be worn fully UNDER socks.
10.  No slide tackling. Extremely rough play (e.g. kicking, tripping, pushing, striking, or spitting at an opponent,
       constant slide tackling) will warrant a temporary 5 minute send-off of the player, to return after an opportunity
       to slow the aggression down. Such player can return after the completion of the 5 minute send off.

**NO JEWELRY AT ALL, NOT EVEN TAPED JEWELRY**

U8 Modified Rules

1.  One referee will center each game.
2.  7 play at a time maximum, 4 minimum.
3.  Team Roster will be used to check in players. Coach MUST have roster available for game to
     proceed. COACHES MUST BE ON ROSTER TO BE ON COACHING SIDELINE.
4.  Size 3 ball to be used.
5.  Two 20 minute halves: one 2 minute water break at mid-point of each half and a 5 minute halftime break
     (i.e. four ten (10) minute quarters with two minute breaks at each quarter and five minute breaks at half time).
6.  Substitutions allowed at 2 minute mid-point breaks (i.e. at quarters), at halves or after an injury.
7.  A goalkeeper will be needed and MUST wear different colored jersey than other players.
     Players in U8 may not play goalie more than half of the game. One hand on the ball within the
     goal area is considered possession. Goalkeeper safety is of vital importance.
8.  NO score keeping. Corner kicks and goal kicks will be used.
9.  All kicks are indirect when a foul occurs. No penalty kicks.
10.  Change of kick-off and goals (teams) at half-time.

U10 Modified Rules

1.  8v8 - 8 play at a time, maximum; 5 minimum.
2.  Player passes will be used to check in players. Coach MUST have player passes available for game to
     proceed. COACHES MUST BE ON ROSTER TO BE ON COACHING SIDELINE.
3.  Size 4 ball is to be used.
4.  Two 25 minute halves with 5 minute half time.
5.  Substitutions - At half-time, and legal substituting times (throw-ins, goal kicks, kick-offs), or after an injury
6.  A goalkeeper will be needed, MUST wear different colored jersey than other players.
       • One hand on the ball within the goal area is considered possession. Goalkeeper safety is of vital importance.
7.  Scores will now be kept in order to track teams for District Cup*. Corner kicks and goal kicks will be used.
8.  Kicks will be direct and indirect WHEN A FOUL OCCURS. A penalty kick will result when a major foul has been committed
     in the penalty area. The penalty kick will take place from the 10 yard mark. The major fouls are: kicking an opponent,
     tripping an opponent, jumping at an opponent, charging at an opponent, striking an opponent, pushing an opponent, tackling
     an opponent, holding an opponent, spitting on an opponent, and deliberately handling the ball.
9.  Change of kick-off and goals (teams) at half-time.
10.  OFFSIDE WILL BE CALLED. The season will start loosely (blatant offside - 5 yards), and tighten up weekly.
       By OCTOBER 2, offside will be called according to FIFA rules.
11.  Throw-ins - Player gets two (2) chances (same player), with referee explanation until OCTOBER 2, at which time player gets
       one (1) chance at a throw-in. If a mistake is made during throw-in, the ball goes to the opposing team according to FIFA rules.

       tackling) will warrant a temporary 5 minute send off of the player to return after an opportunity to slow the aggression

RULES OF PLAY


•  RAINOUTS: All games played on Saturdays will be declared canceled y 7:00 am IF NECESSARY.
    Makeups will be rescheduled, if possible.
•  Teams are expected to be on the field of play within thirty (30) minutes of game time.
•  A coach is required to play a player 0ne half (½) a game with the exception of disciplinary reasons.
•  All other spectators and those without the proper player & coach's pass must use the designated side of the
    field, or the opposite side of the field of the teams.
•  In all LEAGUE games, both teams bench areas will be on the same side of the field. Each coach or
    manager shall confine all coaches and reserve players to an area of not more than ten (10) yards on their
    side of the half line. Spectator areas shall be established on the opposite side of the field. Only players and
    coaches with CYSA passes shall be allowed on the teams' side of the field.
•  A properly credentialed Coach's Pass, Assistant Coach's Pass or a Team Administrator's Pass must
    accompany at least one (1) team official at each LEAGUE game in order for the team to be eligible to play.
    All coaches must meet the District IX Coaches Licensing Policy.
•  Coaches and Managers are responsible for the discipline and behavior of their players and spectators.
•  If, in the referee's opinion, the game must be stopped due to an injured player, that injured player may
    continue play and not leave the field of play at the referee's discretion. If the player is required to leave the
    field of play, the team can either sub for the injured player or play down. The injured player may return to the
    field after play has restarted during a legal substitution.

FAIR PLAY


•  No Running Up The Score. Teams and coaches are strongly encouraged not to run up the score in any game.
    If one team is stronger than the other, the LEAGUE encourages the coach of the stronger team to take steps like
    substituting for stronger players, playing weaker players in forward positions, etc., to even the competition.
•  If a team gets an eight (8) point advantage, it must reduce the number of players on the field by one
•  For each additional goal by the leading team (increase in the lead), the leading team shall decrease the
    number of players on the field by one.
•  At no time will either team have more than the maximum (8 players), or less than the minimum (5 players)
    on the field.
•  No spectators are allowed at goal ends of the soccer playing field.

REFEREE ABUSE


•  The coach of a LEAGUE registered team is responsible for the actions of his/her team's spectators. The coach
    shall take all possible precautions to prevent such persons from threatening, harassing, or abusing referees,
    game officials, players or other spectators before, during or after matches. The coach is responsible for identifying
    any spectators who do threaten, harass or abuse referees, game officials, players or other spectators.
•  Any player, coach, parent, or other adult (spectator either associated or not with a specific team) guilty of referee
    abuse shall be suspended from all AYSL and PCYSO activities for a minimum of two (2) scheduled matches within
    the rules of that competition.
•  The LEAGUE must address a Referee Abuse allegation within ten (10) days from the date of verification of an incident.
